The Watchers (2024)

I know Raiders of the Lost Ark is a landmark in pop culture – it didn't influence me that much. Even though I've seen it a few times, it's not one of my favourites. So of course I wasn't salivating for Dial of Destiny. But I watched it on a plane and I was pleasantly surprised. Which is also the way I feel about Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.
Ok, this post is about another movie that I've put after the Dial… – my apologies. For some reason I started writing about Dial of Destiny and forgot about the actual movie I wanted to write about. Whatever. I'm leaving it in.
You already know how much I appreciate Shyamalan – his daughter's directorial debut did not disappoint. The best part of the movie is the atmosphere and the world-building. I genuinely did not know where the story was going. And I like that. I keep hearing people complain about The Watchers and then praising stuff like Everything Everywhere All at Once. Well Everything Everywhere All at Once has 7.8 yet I couldn't pass the 20 min mark. But The Watchers has a 5.8 yet it's one of the most interesting watches of 2024 for me.
Folklore, traditions, and Shymanlanian twists all over.
